gLite R-GMA SERVER

1. Release Description

This release contains the gLite R-GMA Server module v. 5.0.0. The following sections provide additional information about the release content, the module dependencies, the know bugs and issues and a list of bugs closed since the previous release. For information about installing and using the gLite R-GMA Server, please refer to the gLite Installation and User Guides.

2. Changes in this release

The following features are deprecated in R-GMA. They will continue to work in gLite 1.3 but may be dropped in some future version.

The setTerminationInterval() operation is deprecated, without replacement. The termination interval is set once only, when the resource (producer/consumer) is created, and cannot be changed.

Users should no longer call setTerminationInterval()

The Consumer's popAll() operation is deprecated and calls to popAll() should be replaced by calls to pop(maxCount).

Users should change popAll() to pop(maxCount)

The Consumer's count() operation is deprecated without replacement.

Users should no longer call count()

The behaviour of the reconnect() call automatically sending a showSignOfLife() to the corresponding resource is deprecated. Just calling reconnect() should no longer be regarded as sufficient to keep a resource alive. If the user requires a showSignOfLife() to be sent after the call to reconnect(), they should do so explicitly in their own code.

Users should add a showSignOfLife() after a reconnect() unless some other call is about to be made which will keep the service alive

The behaviour of producers accepting calls to insert() with an INSERT statement that contains values that don't match the R-GMA schema for the corresponding table (e.g. strings that are too long or integers that are too big) is deprecated. The user should ensure that values match the schema and should be prepared to find that R-GMA raises an exception and fails in the insert() call if they do not.

Users should check that what they publish is consistent with the schema.
