gLite I/O Server

1. Release Description

This release contains the gLite I/O Server module v. 2.0.0. The following sections provide additional information about the release content, the module dependencies, the know bugs and issues and a list of bugs closed since the previous release. For information about installing and using the gLite I/O Server please refer to the gLite Installation and User Guides.

2. Changes in this release

This release introduces the following changes:

• This release introduces support for dCache and DPM in addition to Castor SRM
• The configuration script now has a new --configure command line switch to execute the configuration steps only without starting the services. The --start switch must be used to start the services. Running the script without options print usage instructions
• R-GMA Service Publisher parameters updated to use new common conventions (please make sure you use the new configuration templates)

• The following parameters have been changed in the configuration file:
  
  io-resolve-common.SeProtocol (user parameters in each io-server instance).
  This parameter was defaulted to rfio in previous versions of the io-server. Now it can be set to one of the available supported protocols
  
  
• Various bug fixes

5. Known bugs and issues

This release has the following know bugs and issues. Bug numbers refer to the gLite Bug Tracking system database hosted on the CERN Savannah system at https://savannah.cern.ch/bugs/?group=jra1mdw .

• The gLite I/O and gLite FTS security models conflict. This is being discussed in several coordination bodies. A proposal to harmonize them has been already produced and circulated as part of the updated gLite Architecture document
• glite put/get fails while putting files bigger than 2 Gb. This is due to the CLI failing to read the local file if large file flag are not specified at build time. The problem is being worked on.
• Due to an incompatibility between different Globus versions, it may be necessary to turn off the usage of the client's delegated credentials to contact the catalogs if the version of Globus running on the SRM server is older than the version used by gLite I/O Server. If that is the case, set the value of the “io-authz-catalogs.DisableDelegation” and “io-resolve-common.DisableDelegation” configuration parameters to "true". For more information refer to the gLite Installation Guide.
• No removal procedure is provided with this release apart from the removal of the RPMS. Any account, group or other resource created during the module configuration must be manually cleaned.
• In addition, since there may be overlaps between different gLite modules, automatic removal of the RPMS files may fail if two or more modules are installed on the same host.
• In order to use gLite I/O Server with some configurations of Castor SEs, the distinguished name of the host where the gLite I/O server is installed, must be included in the /etc/grid-security/grid-mapfile of the Castor SE node.
