gLite I/O Server

1. Release Description

This release contains the gLite I/O Server module v. 1.2.5. The following sections provide additional information about the release content, the module dependencies, the know bugs and issues and a list of bugs closed since the previous release. For information about installing and using the gLite I/O Server please refer to the gLite Installation and User Guides.

2. Changes in this release

This release introduces the following changes:

Removed definition of X509_USER_CERT and X509_USER_KEY from the configuration script and changed certificate names to usercert.pem and userkey.pem (rather than service{cert|key}.pem) when creating copies of the host certificates as service certificates. In addition, when using real service certificates, they must be installed in the .globus directory of the home directory of the user running the I/O Server instances. The service.certificate.file and service.key.file parameters must be set to full path of those certificates. This is required to allow proper delegation of end-user certificates when contacting the catalogs using secure endpoints.
Added support for catalogues secure endpoints. As of this release, the I/O Server requires running the mkgridmap script and installing the glite-mkgridmap cron job. Therefore the parameter install.mkgridmap.cron must be set to true.
It is now possible to independently create I/O Server instances per VO and per type of catalog. For example it is possible to have two instances for the same VO, but using two different types of catalog. The service instances and relative log and properties files are suffixed with the VO name and the catalog type keyword
The names of the VOs served by the I/O Server node and the VOMS server hostnames hosting them must now be specified in the configuration file using the new voms.voname and voms.vonode array parameters. The values of these parameters are used to configure the /opt/glite/etc/glite-mkgridmap.conf file
All R-GMA service publishing instances in the configuration template now have default values except the new vo.name parameter that has to be set from ‘changeme’ to a valid VO name for each I/O Server instance (one instance per VO)

5. Known bugs and issues

This release has the following know bugs and issues. Bug numbers refer to the gLite Bug Tracking system database hosted on the CERN Savannah system at https://savannah.cern.ch/bugs/?group=jra1mdw .

Due to an incompatibility between different Globus versions, it may be necessary to turn off the usage of the client's delegated credentials to contact the catalogs if the version of Globus running on the SRM server is older than the version used by gLite I/O Server. If that is the case, set the value of the “io-authz-catalogs.DisableDelegation” and “io-resolve-common.DisableDelegation” configuration parameters to "true". For more information refer to the gLite Installation Guide.
No removal procedure is provided with this release apart from the removal of the RPMS. Any account, group or other resource created during the module configuration must be manually cleaned.
In addition, since there may be overlaps between different gLite modules, automatic removal of the RPMS files may fail if two or more modules are installed on the same host.
In order to use gLite I/O Server with some configurations of Castor SEs, the distinguished name of the host where the gLite I/O server is installed, must be included in the /etc/grid-security/grid-mapfile of the Castor SE node.

the gLite Security Utilities are automatically installed and configured with the gLite I/O Server and do not need to be installed separately anymore
The gLite init.d script is automatically installed and activated by the configuration scripts to start all gLite I/O Server services (rfio and the glite-io-server service at boot-time)

7.2.5. Known bugs and issues

This release has the following know bugs and issues. Bug numbers refer to the gLite Bug Tracking system database hosted on the CERN Savannah system at https://savannah.cern.ch/bugs/?group=jra1mdw .

Due to an incompatibility between different Globus versions, it may be necessary to turn off the usage of the client's delegated credentials to contact the catalogs if the version of Globus running on the SRM server is older than the version used by gLite I/O Server. If that is the case, set the value of the “io-authz-catalogs.DisableDelegation” and “io-resolve-common.DisableDelegation” configuration parameters to "true". For more information refer to the gLite Installation Guide.
No removal procedure is provided with this release apart from the removal of the RPMS. Any account, group or other resource created during the module configuration must be manually cleaned.
In addition, since there may be overlaps between different gLite modules, automatic removal of the RPMS files may fail if two or more modules are installed on the same host.
In order to use gLite I/O Server with some configurations of Castor SEs, the distinguish name of the host where the gLite I/O server is installed, must be included in the /etc/grid-security/grid-mapfile of the Castor SE node.
By default the gLite I/O Server service is configured to use the host certificates, which are copied to the home directory of the user running the service. However in some cases, it must be necessary to use specific service certificates. In this case the certificates have to be installed manually and the X509_USER_CERT and X509_USER_KEY env vars have to be defined manually before starting the I/O Server service. This is fixed in the next release.
